2023 Pure Pitch Rally alumna Ashley McClellan is making big waves in healthcare staffing with her startup MedCurate, which has quickly become Kansas City’s “Uber for healthcare staffing.”
Since launching a pilot in March 2024, McClellan has seen rapid growth. By the end of last year, MedCurate’s client base had grown 320%, with revenue up 400% in just its first year. The platform now serves 40 healthcare organizations across Kansas, Missouri, Texas and Oklahoma — including hospitals, surgery centers and home health agencies.
The app connects nurses to open shifts with more flexibility than traditional staffing models, helping organizations save money while increasing nurse pay and satisfaction. On average, clients have saved $15 per nurse per hour, and nurses have reported earning up to 25% more per shift.
Texas is the next big frontier for MedCurate, as McClellan taps into her former hospital leadership network from her time in the Lone Star State. With a $1 million early funding round under her belt, she’s continuing to scale the team and enhance the platform, thanks in part to early support from programs like Digital Sandbox KC and UMKC’s Regnier Venture Creation Challenge, in addition to the Pure Pitch Rally.
McClellan’s mission to “cure the healthcare staffing crisis” is showing strong early results, making it easier for clinicians to return to a profession they love — on their own terms.
